LONDON, UK, 13 April 2023

Following on from their EFSA Novel Foods validation on October 28th 2022, Mile High Labs, a leading manufacturer of hemp-derived cannabinoid ingredients and finished products, today announced it received positive validation of its novel foods dossier (RP349) from the UK FSA.

“Since day one, Mile High Labs has been a champion of quality, consistency, and integrity in the CBD industry. We have always believed that the quality standards we set would be a key differentiator when regulatory frameworks are put in place. The teams’ achievement today is the result of the hard work we began 4 years ago. The compliance and integrity of our customers’ products will always be our top priority. We are proud to have taken this step toward authorization, maintaining our partnerships with some of the leading brands in the global CBD space.”

John Wallace, Managing Director, Mile High Labs International.

When the FSA announced that CBD would be regulated as a novel food ingredient, Mile High Labs began preparing a dossier that contained manufacturing data, product specifications, stability data, quality control methodologies, and toxicological data to support the safe consumption of CBD. Mile High Labs is not part of any consortia, and all relevant data is based on their own ingredient.

“This is a tremendous step forward for the category, regulation, and science. As a scientist, I’m encouraged by the rigor and focus shown by the FSA and EFSA to ensure that the Novel Food ingredients that Europeans consume are safe. It is also conceivable that more and more countries will adopt the same regulation over time, especially countries with unclear or non-existent regulation. We strive to be the most innovative, efficacious, and safe ingredient manufacturer on the planet.”

Vardan Ter-Antonyan, R&D Manager, Mile High Labs.

The UK’s CBD market is currently worth £300 million, a figure that’s expected to balloon when CBD has attained full market authorization. The clear regulatory pathway for CBD will allow UK retailers and global brands to confidently enter the category and sets the stage for explosive market growth.

“The UK is the first developed market in the world that has a real plan for regulating food products infused with CBD. We are proud to play such an integral role in the rapid growth of this market, and we welcome regulations that help build consumer trust in this industry.”

Iain Britton, Head of International Sales, Mile High Labs International.
